I have a copper tea pot that has black burn/smoke marks on it on the side and bottom of it from a small stove fire I had last month and I can't seem to get them to come off. I've tried scrubbing it with Dawn bleach soap and water with a bristled brush and hand scrubbing without much luck, and I'm afraid to use any chemicals or cleaning products on it for fear I'll end up damaging it. Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions for how to clean them off?

yeah that dosent come off its because your gas is turned too high on your stove so the burner makes a yello flame i believe so you should just invest in a new one

take a lemon and cut it in half take the half and put it down in some salt or sugar and start to scrub the tea pot with that it will make it go away . I saw this on food network on Paula's home cooking show at walmart .

cover the bottom and sides of the pot with water and add 4 or 5 table- spoons of salt. Leave it to soak overnight and then bring the mixture to a boil. The pot should then be easy to clean.
If this doesnt help, try this:
A little salt and vinegar usually clean copper pots. Just sprinkle on, rub lightly and wash as usual. Or, rub with a wedge of lemon dipped in salt. Wipe off with a wet cloth, dry and apply lemon oil or wax.
Tomato ketchup will also clean it.
If none helps, build a small museum in the corner of your kitchen. Call it 'da museum of burned copper pans and pots".

try using baking soda.make it into a paste and rub gently with a sponge.if that doesn't work use a lemon cut in half rub the tea pot with the lemon.this works for me

Did you try scrubbing with Baking Soda? It's very gentle and won't cause harm.

Two things work for me when I burn a pot:
1. Lets say the inside of the pot is burned. Take a glob of dishwasher detergent and put it into the pot. Add just a small amount of water to liquify the detergent, There should be about a quarter inch of liquid in the pot.
Put the pot on the stove and bring it to a slow boil. Let it sit there boiling for twenty minutes or so and the black will usually be gone.
This also works on the outside of a pot if you put the pot into a bigger pot.
2. Use metal polish, like silver polish. Does a good job of getting rid of those yellowish scortch marks on a pot.
