Opinions on the efficacy of black cohosh differ.

My concern in your situation would be that long-term use (longer than 6 months) of black cohosh can cause increased menstrual bleeding, liver damage, slow heartbeat, and increased risk of reproductive cancer due to stimulation of estrogen-sensitive cells.

It's believed that black cohosh works by binding to serotonin receptors, so if you're taking any medications such as antidepressants, it's important you talk to your physician before trying this.

This is an excellent article on the subject: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/black-cohosh/NS_patient-blackcohosh

I have tried black cohosh for perimenopausal symptoms. It did help, but because of concern about reproductive cancer I don't take it any more.
