If someone has herbal tea, would this reduce the effects of their psychiatric medication?
I drink alot of herbal tea, and if I offer them a cup, I dont want to harm them. i mean, I am not gonna give it up if they cant have it, but I just wanna know.

This is a real interesting question. The answer is possibly yes. If the herbal tea has chemicals in it that react with the anti-depresents, then yes…which could possibly happen. You'd have to talk to a pharmacist or bio-chemist to find out for sure…

I haven't heard of this I have taken anti-depressants and was never told to stay away from herbal tea. I was told to cut back dramatically on my caffeine intake. I would always offer the person should know what they can or cannot take.

Very often, herbs and foods may interact with medications you normally take that result in serious side reactions. It is always a good practice to tell your doctor or health practitioners what you are taking so that they can advise you of possible complications, if there is any. You should also keep an eye for unusual symptoms. Very often, this may foretell the symptoms of a drug interaction.
you should never combine prescription medications with any other type of remedy unless prescribed by a doctor? All medications have the potential for side effects. Some side effects are minor and not life threatening such as, dry mouth or slight gastric upset. Conversely, some medications have severe side-effects that can be very life threatening, interfere with the absorption of key nutrients and the function of many enzymes, and counteract the important benefits of other medications.
A drug is defined as a substance taken to: diagnose, medicate, prevent, and treat. A drug can effect non-targeted organs in the body thus resulting in unwanted side-effects, can neutralize or counteract the effects of other drugs, and can worsen certain pre-existing health problems
Although remedies taken in their natural form are not as potent as their synthetic pharmacological counterpart, they are still capable of doing great harm in large doses or when combined with other medications or remedies. Therefore, all supplements, whether vitamins, minerals, herbal, or homeopathic need to be reported and discussed with your doctor. The doctor can review for: proper dosing, interactions with other remedies, reduced absorption potential, harmful effects, and the like.
