My doc says it's ok and then I tried some herbal sleepy time teas. I then read the label and it said don't use when pregnant unless ok'ed by the doctor. Now, I am nervous.
Which teas are ok to take?
Which teas are good to use for sleep? I know some are not! The doc did not tell me which ones are ok. I just want to know. I already love my baby.

i know that different things effect different women and babys differently. but it is best to be on the safe side just dont do it anymore. chances are that it will not hurt the baby but to be on the safe side for your own self assurance. I have also heard that like the herbal rasberry tea i think can throw you into labor but it could be a old wives tale.

Most herbal teas are okay, I've read that green tea isn't until later in pregancy, you also have to watch out for certain herbs that can cause you uterus to contract. Any baby website has this information. I think they have a list on babycenter.com Hope that helps.

Chamomile is the safest, it will help you sleep. It is so safe, the fda has approved it for use in newborn babies.

Try camomile tea - calm and soothing for that nervous feeling. All herbal teas are fine unless you have allergies to something in them. Regular fresh tea is also good, if you use tea leaves, not tea bags. Check the "flavored" ones - Additives are NOT good for the baby ("E for Additives" : you'll know them - the additive number usually starts with 'E')
Good luck with the pregnancy.

Use extreme caution when drinking herbal teas when you are pregnant or nursing. Anything, I mean anything except maybe chamomile, could cause your blood pressure to go up. Watch our for Caffiene, Rose Hips, Hibiscus, Echinacea …

I'm personally shocked at all of the negative answers you have been given.
From my experience:
I am fortunate to have a OB/GYN that is traditionally trained in both Western and Eastern traditional medicine. We have had the talk about tea and coffee.
Here is the deal with some herbal tea.
First of all, green tea is NOT okay during your first trimester. I love when people put down whatever comes to their mind to score those extra two points.
Green tea in a moderate consumption will prevent the absorption of folate, necessary for neural tube growth and development. This reason is because of EGCG, which is predominant in Green Tea. You will usually see this advertised on Green Tea since it is a great antioxidant and preventative of cancerous cells (speculative). This of course is not true or important enough during pregnancy because as you know you need a lot of folate during this time.

Herbal tea usually does not come equipped with caffiene but it does have stimulants like Ginseng, Mate, Red Raspberry Leaf or Cohosh(speculated to contract the uterus), Yellow Dock (laxative properties not good for the uterus), St. John's Wort, Kava Kava and others.
Black tea is good in small doses and a nice pick me up in the morning.
White tea is usually very basic, elegant and refreshing.
The best teas for you if you are restless are Chamomile (safe), Lemon (NOT LEMONGRASS) or Spearmint. The latter two are actually great when you are nauseous, too.
Hope this is helpful ~
