Does black tea lighten or darken your hair for someone who has dark brown hair/?

I have black hair, but I want it to be dark brown instead....

I've never heard of someone using tea to lighten/darken their hair. But, from my experience, it will not lift hair. It doesn't have the ingredients in it to pull up the color to lighten it. However, if you were to have bleached/blonde hair, it could possibly deposit color into the hair, but I don't think it would turn out a very nice color…
