Does drinking a lot of green tea really cause any negative side effects?

June 5th, 2008 · 7 Comments

I drink 3-5 cups four days a week.. I have felt nothing but great things from drinking it. I have heard it causes kidney stones and too much caffiene etc… But I am a firm believer in the health benefits in drinking all kinds of teas, as frequently as possible.. I love it… whos with me? …

Tea is great for you - especially green tea. They do make decaf in it, so that is what I opt for. Lots of caffeine is definitely not good for you.

Yeah thats about it, you just have to watch you caffeine intake. Otherwise, green tea is loaded with antioxidants which are good for you.

Green tea is a stimulant and has a LOT of caffeine. I was surprised when I had to have a procedure done to check my gall bladder and the doc would not do it until I stopped using Green Tea for at least two weeks. It can speed up and cause irregular heartbeat due to the volume of caffeine. A decaf version would be a better choice.

Not really but if the tea is caffeinated, you can become addicted/dependent on caffeine.

Anything in excess can be unhealthy. Many caffeinated products have decaf versions, so you might want to switch, or alternate and drink some of each to keep your total caffeine intake down.

"Many people switch from concentrated sources of caffeine to daily green tea because the amount of caffeine in green tea is low and balanced by theanine."

Do some research online yourself if you have concerns about any possible health risks. Consuming just about anything in moderation though, is going to be fine…

My boss drinks about 10 cups a day….i know …..i have to make them for him.(hes a happy, healthy chap…always smiling..) Ive heard nothing but rave reviews….
      except for one…
      My stepmums doctor.
I went to see mum one day an she was very sick. After countless specialists and still no answer she went to this doctor.
This dr immediately referred her, and had her booked in the next day to a specialist in the city. Within 6 months she was back to perfect.. and was titled NATIONAL CHAMPION for physical culture (wierd form of dance) The only reason im crapping on about this is to show how clever this doctor is (shes since diagnosed more really serious stuff no one else could)
She HATES GREEN TEA. She says it causes major liver disease. She will rant for hours how bad she thinks it is. Constantly getting patients in with liver failure. She says 'do you drink? 'no, never touched a drop'
Do you drink green tea? Yes about 5 cups a day….. as far as she is concerned.. theres the problem.! I dont know…
Im not decided. Im not a doctor, but personally i will be looking into it a bit more. I tried to ask my boss not to drink it and he laughed and told me to go jump!
I have a simple policy… If you like it- do it..

i drink more than that, and i'm doing awesome. Theres not a whole lot of caffeine in green tea, and actually it naturally has theanine which combats the negative side effects of what little caffeine there is in green tea
