If you want to lose 1-2 pounds per week, it does not help.

If you want to be healthy, green tea is a good alternative to coffee and other tea.

I believe it speeds up your metabolism… Which is good. But I wouldn't call green tea a major method in losing weight.

No…not the regular green tea you buy at the supermarket…however, there are specific green tea diet supplements that are meant for dieters…I have never tried them…read the label carefully for precautions before buying!!!

drink fresh green tea flavored with some lemon.lime or grapefruit juice…drink only 2 or 3 glasses a day…you still have to portion control and workout a lot to get results though…

I don't think it helps you lose weight. Be careful of how much tea you consume especially when you're on your time of the month because tea contains some kind of chemicals that reduce the absorption of iron, which you lose a lot of during your period by the way.

Good question! The answer is it helps…a little. Green tea alone will not promote weight loss, only with a sound exercise plan and calorie intake management (the normal stuff) will help.

You normall need to lose 500 calories per day PER pound of weight you need to lose. With grean tea, if you took FIVE cups of it (per day) you would only lose 60 to 70 calories per day…way short of the 500 calories per pound needed to lose just one pound of weight.

However, EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) which is in green tea is widely promoted as helping with weight loss as it sorta 'speeds' up the metabolism of the body. Science is both ways on this…clearly it doesn't help on it's own.

If you are looking for EGCG, the best way is via pill form as you can get the most concentrated dosage that way (instead of drinking like 5 to 10 cups per day). EGCG is the component of green tea you are interested in for your OVERALL weight loss plan.

Some options would be One-a-day vitamins has a weight management multivitamin that has EGCG or just go to GNC stores (or anywhere for that matter) to find a good EGCG supplement. And, of course, you could take green tea…ANY is good…and at the minimum it has great health benefits!

Alan has answered the question very well, and I'll just add some information to what he's already provided.
Green tea has thermogenic properties (a thermogenic increases the metabolism of the body’s fat), and promotes fat oxidation beyond that explained by its caffeine content. In a recent study of 60 obese subjects, it was concluded that green tea could reduce body weight by increasing energy expenditure and fat oxidation. In another study involving obese subjects, it was found that continuous ingestion of a green tea extract led to a reduction in body fat and LDL cholesterol. The three ingredients in green tea that promote fat loss are catechins, caffeine and theanine that work by inhibiting the enzymes that digest triglycerides, which play an important role in metabolism as energy sources and transporters of dietary fat.
