its more of an anti-oxidant. coffee is bad as it de-hydrates you which if your trying to diet is not good.
green tea (i hate the stuff) is much better for you.

green tea has been proven to speed your metabolism and therefore helps you lose weight. I love to use green tea as a fat burner because you can diet with it or excersize or any combination and it works great. I love to use it for those reasons and most of all because it is an all natural tea and you can burn fat healthier and cleaner with this. plus, it comes in many varieties, i like it in the soothing chinese teas, they taste the best with 1 cup tea and 1 drops of Stevis clear dietary supplement sugar, it is a liquid and works great! you only need 1 drop per 2 liquid ounces. and i like the organic stuff, no pestisides or any of that crap!
