The evidence that green tea may reduce risk of some cancers is weak and its unlikely to cut cancer risk, U.S. Federal Drug Administration officials said. (back in 2005)

Epidemiological studies are used to identify differences in people’s lifestyles that might be connected with their health. Such studies revealed that in Asian countries where green tea consumption is higher, the incidence of some cancers is lower.
While these studies point to possible connections, they don’t prove what might cause the connection. Several controlled studies carried out in Japan did not find that drinking green tea reduced the risk of cancer. (SOURCE IS CURRENT)

It has great antioxidants and those help reduce your risk of cancer - berries, beats, spinach, grapes, pomegranites, wine, grape juice, and other red or purple foods also have high amounts of antioxidants.
You don’t want to go overboard with the tea - one to 3 cups a day should be plenty.
