i bought an oriental tea set recently. (the kind w/o handles) and there was an extra piece which i don't know the use of. it's small about 2 inches, the same color and design as the tea pot, has a small handle, and is smaller at the oppening than the middle. the tea set was made in Japan if that helps, may be hand painted, definatly antique. any ideas? i collect these tea sets, but haven't come across one of these. i've only been doing it for a few years, so any advise in that area would be appreciated also. ( mostly all antiques) thanks so much!

Sounds like it might be a Yuzamashi, which is
"A vessel which allows the hot water to cool and attain a proper temperature, before mixing with matcha."
