I think they do! The negative effects of caffeine tend to be short term and mild in small doses (as you'd receive with a cup of green tea) whereas the benefits are long-term

To sum up, here are just a few medical conditions in which drinking green tea is reputed to be helpful:
cancer
rheumatoid arthritis
high cholesterol levels
cariovascular disease
infection
impaired immune function
To date, the only negative side effect reported from drinking green tea is insomnia due to the fact that it contains caffeine. However, green tea contains less caffeine than coffee: there are approximately thirty to sixty mg. of caffeine in six - eight ounces of tea, compared to over one-hundred mg. in eight ounces of coffee.

Green Tea can reduce your blood cholesterol. And help to maintain your body weight. Its a good beverage if you are on a diet.
Lets say you are a junk food lovers (McDo, or other fast food) after you eat a big mac, by drinking a cup of hot green tea, it may neutralize the cholesterol from the big mac, i read in an article on health magazine, but i forget what's the be magazine's name. I'll inform you later.

There have been many studies on the benefits of green tea - in particular the idea that green tea consumption can prevent cancer. A lot of these studies have shown that green tea can help to prevent certain cancers (especially prostate cancer), but you have to consume a lot of it. These web sites have some interesting information:

The second one says you need to drink about 14 cups a day to see much benefit.
As for the negative effects of caffeine; Green tea contains less than half the caffeine that black tea does.
