green tea that is good for you?

August 12th, 2008 · 3 Comments

There is a convient store near my house and just about everytime i go i buy myself a green tea. I have tried all the brands, like Arizona, lipton, sobe, pom, the vitiman water kind… and more. I think they all taste great, but are any of them actually as good for you as if you were to brew it your self. I know how bad soda is for your health, so i dont want to be drinking the wrong tea and find that it is actually just as bad as soda. I thank you for your answers…

You should go t the Asian grocery store and buy Yamamotoyama Japanese green tea. All those bottled ones are just soda type drinks loaded with high fructose corn syrup. they are more damaging than good You should brew it yourself to get the health benefit..

WOW good question. I did a little research and found this. Excuse me for cutting and pasting:

Still, this begs the question: is it really wise to store the teakettle in the cupboard for the summer? Just how healthy are bottled tea drinks compared to brewed tea?

The short answer, unfortunately, is no. Studies indicate that bottled tea drinks aren't a substitute for brewed tea. It all comes down to polyphenols - powerful anti-oxidants that both kill and inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Bottled tea drinks contain a lower amount of polyphenols than brewed tea. An October, 2005 news release by the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University (OSU) states that some bottled tea products they studied “have levels of polyphenols and antioxidant activity 10 to 100 times lower than conventionally brewed tea, regardless of whether they are based on green teas or the white teas that supposedly have more health value.”

It all comes down to artificial ingredients too. I would bet its not as bad as soda because of the amount of AI's and sugars, and acid. But nowhere near as healthy as fresh brewed green tea.

Thanks for the great ques. i learned something.

Its better to brew your own..processed tea loses all their benefits and they r loaded with sugar. Just boill hot water..let it sit for 3 minutes. Then dunk a bag of green tea into as much water as per instruction on the package and let it steep for 3 mins, Drink with a spritz of lemon and some honey. U can have it cold too. What I do is brew one teabag to a one liter jug of water and stick it into the fridge and drink it whenevr im thirsty. When its cold..its great unsweetened..
