Herbal teas & 38 weeks pregnant?

October 7th, 2008 · 6 Comments

I know you’re supposed to avoid herbal teas while pregnant, but I have a cold and my throat is very very sore. The only tea I have is herbal, and from what I have read in my pregnancy books, it says to stay away from it OR AT LEAST LIMIT it. So if it says to limit it, and I haven’t drank any during my whole pregnancy, would it hurt to drink just one cup to soothe my throat?? It’s decaffeinated and all that good stuff. My throat is just killing me.

Thanks for your advice in advance =]

I thought as long as it is caffeine free that you are okay. I don’t see any harm in it so long as its decaffeinated.

girl ur fine!!!! dont be sooo scared of those books! you (and ur baby)will be totally fine!!!!!!!!! i hate how women get so upset because of these books and others telling them the latest on “healthy” pregnancies trends!!!!! its just tea seriously if you ‘ll feel better, isn’t that better for ur baby too?!?!?!?!

you could try regular decaf tea with honey.. honey really helps, and so does anything that will steam, really. you could even try hot water with honey in it. but darlin, your baby is fully developed at this point. if you don’t wanna go to the store and you just wanna have a little bit of hot herbal tea cause thats whats in the cabinet, then have it. it’s not going to hurt the baby.

teas made from ginger, lime blossom, peppermint, roasted barley, rose hips, and thyme are safe to drink .

I suggest ginger for your throat and peppermint. Don’t worry, they are ready to inject laboring women with morphine at the hospital I don’t think a cup of tea will do any harm

Hey we could be identical. I am 38 weeks my baby is due 10-16-08. I have been battling a sore throat now congestions in my nose and chest. I drank tea and lemon my midwife gave me tea at the visit the other day.

My sore throat is gone now I am battling with congestion sneezing and running nose, trying to keep an infection away with all of this congestion.

I believe you should be okay to drink some herbal tea.
