I'd like to darken my hair slightly. It's a sort of light brown/dirty blonde. I don't want to use henna or dye, but would like to do something out of a kitchen or something. I guess I could try some darkening shampoo, what would be the best? when I tried the black tea, it didn't work.. Was I doing something wrong? I put a bag of black tea into a bucket of hot water, and put in a section of hair for about 10 minutes, and when it dried, it was still the same color. What should I do? Does dark hair work with pale skin?

i think you need to use more than one tea bag and let it steep for about 15 minutes before you soak you hair in it. dark hair works ok with pale skin if you have the right shape. good luck.

I suggest a semi-permanent color like natural instincs. It really only lasts about a month. No semi-permanent dye will have a dramatic color effect if you stick close to your natural shade and just go a bit darker. After you do it and you like it, you should take care of it with a color care shampoo and conditioner. If you dont like it use a more detergent like shampoo (for example - baby shampoo or generic brand). That should work for you, and your hair feels great after you use that kind of dye.
When in doubt and you want to spend money on it, go to a local salon and ask if they use vegetable dyes, they dont last long either but your paying $$$$ for it.
