Green tea is only supposed to steep for 1-2 minute. Also, the water should be around 175 degrees farenheit (80 celcius).
FYI: Black tea should steep for 3-4 minutes in 195 degree water (90 degree celcius).
Additional Answer: Same as black tea… 1 tsp / 8 oz

a big pinch of tea - not spoonfuls!!
i let mine brew for a couple of minutes - the water shouldn't be really dark in colour like black tea.

i use a french coffee press *since i don't have a tea ball* cut open the tea bag dump it in w/2 cups hot water. let it steep for 2-3 minutes or so and then press the loose leafs to the bottom. then pour some tea into a warmed mug w/additional hot water if needed. stir and enjoy

Add more water and instead of using hot water, use warm water.

you can use the same amount you use for black tea or to suit your taste, but do not boil the water and only steep for like one or 2 minutes. The reason it was bitter is because you steeped it too long. The lighter the color of tea the less brewing time. Try the green tea with mint, it is awesome. And Lipton makes a green tea with mixed berry that is good for first timers. You do have to acquire a taste for it.
