Have your mom come home and find her own picture getting the same treatment.

Answer: Your mother may be performing some type of folk magic to keep your girlfriend from disrupting the family life. The foil would be a reflective surface to send the "negative influences" back to where they came from and the tealights would be used to create a protective barrier keeping the "negative influences" from escaping into the rest of the house.

It's a spell. Try this. Get a small paper cup or a small bowl, write your mothers name on a small piece of paper and attach it to the bottom of the cup or bowl. Or just write her name on the bottom of the cup or bowl. Fill it with water and put it in the freezer. It's like cooling someone off. It's not meant to do harm. Just chill out and cool off.

That sounds slightly reminiscent of some magical traditions, such as hoodoo, but not 100% with anything given a cursory search online.

In any case, I'd say it is a sign your mother is loopy and might be trying to get in your head, which she might succeed in doing if you are superstitious. Here's a case where I am going to suggest you follow my beliefs, specifically that there is no such thing as magic.

    Best wishes.

It doesn't matter if you are a lesbian your mom needs help. She should be able except you because you are still you.

What Sherry F said is a spell I have heard of as well… It is meant to bind the person from doing you harm.

You may be more successful in talking to your mother and telling her you don't appreciate her actions. Magic isn't just spells, it's your own power of will and action.
