When God calls you to fast (water fast) is it 'OKAY' to drink herbal teas and such???

July 23rd, 2008 · 21 Comments

Just wondering, if you feel God is calling you to fast, is it 'Okay' to drink herbal teas and such and such?
Thank you all for your help.

I really appreciate it. And, for those who said things a little more 'harsh', I appreciate that as well. I want the truth more than anything.

As for my reasons for fast, I just feel very dry, spiritually. I really have a desire, to have more of a hunger for God. I need to be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

I do not know whether this is wicked or not but, I also believe fasting is good for your health and look forward to those health benefits.

I really want the truth more than anything and I do not care if I am wrong. I can be wrong. I want the truth.

We're not living in an age of "rules and regulations." God honors your sacrifice….and if a fast that includes herbal teas is still a sacrifice for you, God will still honor it.

I rarely have a water only fast…………I juice fruits and veggies………..recommended by Dr. I think this is fine.

You should never go for more than 24 hrs. with only water.

hmmm. i would think so. only because most tea's are actually made with water so i would assume that you could do that. you should try asking someone who is a strong believer and does this currently. maybe someone at your church could help you figure it out?

A "fast" is going without for a specific of time to cleanse and purify your mind.It is not a fast if you aren't honest.Water is the choosen drink for a reason, being as it is pure and a gift from God.Do you really think you can cheat God?

God, being a fiction, calls one to nothing.

It is the heart behind the sacrifice that matters. When G-d accepted Abel's sacrifice but rejected Cain's, the difference was the motive, the heart. When G-d rejected the sacrifice of Nadab and Abihu, it was because the motive was not legit.

If you're calling it a water fast, that's what you offer. Don't try to find ways to cheat on it. That's not where your heart should be. If that's where you're at, it's better not to do it at all. A cheater-fast is more disrespectful to G-d than no fast at all would be. Look at His response to Nadab in Abihu - He came out of the Holy of Holies as a ball of fire and burned them alive because their heart was wrong. Their "sacrifice" was an insult.

you're just splitting hairs. Jesus fasted for 40 days…nothing. you think it would be such a great story had He only fasted on bread and water, but ate meat and drank wine…no cause it's not a fast. a fast is giving up of something showing your dedication and sincerity and willingness to God. what are really sacrificing by only giving up water but still drinking whatever else you want? what's even the point then?

There are many different type of fasts. Joy Haney has a book called "when Ye Fast" and it has many different fasts and what they are used for. If you are truly called to a water fast - then you should only have water. If you are called to a liquid fast then you could have herbal teas, clear soups and such. If you are called to a juice fast - only juices. you can fast other things besides just foods - you can fast TV, entertainment, social events. You can shut yourself in with God and just have special communion with Him during this time of fasting.

Well the last time God called me he said I could drink Mountain Dew because it has water in it. By the way might I add the reception was amazing because the last time he called me we kept getting cut off.

The first thing that you have to look at is, the purpose of the fast,
while the have been many people in the world to began a fast to draw attention to their particular cause.
this is on the purpose of a Godly fast.
the purpose of a Godly fast is to bring your flesh under submission to the Spirit, not to win favor with God.
So would fasting water affect you in any way if you were still able to drink water by adding an herbal tea bag to it?
personally I could fast water for years simply by adding coffee grounds to it.
