I have enjoyed drinking my tea white for years, until recently, when I heard that scientist have discovered that you do not get the antioxident and good for your heart health benefits that tea is promoted to contain once you add milk. The reason for this is because the protein from the milk blocks the antioxidants from doing it's good work.
I have been drinking my tea black for two days now and it has made me feels so sick five minutes after drinking it that it makes me retch quite violently, I either feel cold and shakey or hot and sweaty. Can someone please tell me if they experience this and what causes it.
Should I perservere with it? I don't want to drink my tea white if I'm not getting the same health benefits as drinking it black.
Thank you to anyone who can help.

You must be having a caffeine withdrawal?

Could it be an allergic reaction?

I would guess this may be caused by the tannins in the tea, it's known to cause nausea in some people. Are you drinking it on an empty stomach? If you try drinking it only on a full stomach after meals it's much less likely to happen. Also I agree with Lyn's suggestion of trying green tea (without milk). It has more health benefits than black tea and I find it tastes better than black tea does without milk because of its more mellow flavour.

I get sick from tea if I drink it on an empty stomach. Maybe you haven't eaten anything before it?
