They're don't have superhuman effects like some sites claim, but studies have shown that they increase metabolism upt to 10% for an hour or so after drinking. However, there are other benefits that may be more helpful in the long run than weight loss. Studies have shown that it can help prevent cancer in some cases, or at least offset it considerably. Some lung cancer patients had it offset by up to 4 years if I remember correctly. Then there are other health benefits too but I don't remember them all as I did the research for it a while ago. I think on average a tea drinker will loser 18 pounds a year more than a non-tea drinker. Of course, this study was done in asian countries where it's customary (I think) to drink tea plain, without sugar or milk, which may slightly offset the caloric benefits. Also if you really need a sweetener try honey before sugar because it is healthier. But either way, tea is healthy so drink up.
